ABOUT NORTENT

NORTENT is an expedition tent brand created and designed for the Norwegian wilderness by avid hiker Kjetil Knudsen.

NORTENT's perfect outdoor gear is spacious, lightweight, safe, easy to set up, and of course comfortable, and can be relied on in any season and in any situation. After all, what enhances your happiness when walking in the mountains or deep forests is having gear you can trust.

If the trip is comfortable, the experience will remain memorable and the urge and longing for nature will become even stronger, leading to more excitement on repeated trips.

It is important to us that you can stop wherever you want, stay overnight or camp wherever you want and trust that you will be comfortable and safe. Climb into your sleeping bag warm and content without having to worry about storms, rain or cold. We believe that nature should be your home and our tents should be your front door.

Fabric Selection

The quality of the fabric also depends on the coating applied: flysheets coated with PU (polyurethane) are prone to chemical degradation.

At NORTENT, we choose ripstop nylon fabric that is silicone coated on both sides.

This is Silnylon, which has excellent water repellency, elasticity, and durability, and its waterproof properties do not decrease much over time.

Commitment to poles

When it comes to choosing poles for our tents, we take a unique approach by not using the well-known DAC poles, but rather by manufacturing our own poles specifically for them. So why do this when DAC poles are renowned for their durability and performance?

Designing and manufacturing our own tent poles allows us to tailor every aspect of their construction to our exact specifications. This level of customization allows us to optimize factors such as weight, strength and flexibility to perfectly suit the design and intended use of each tent model in our range.

This approach ensures that our poles are not too brittle or fragile, nor too weak, maintaining the right combination of robustness and flexibility for optimal performance in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

About seam sealing

Ensuring your tent's seams are waterproof is crucial to a comfortable and dry outdoor experience, and while we understand that you expect perfect seams from the factory, it's important to emphasize that in most cases, seam sealing is not required to achieve the waterproof seams of our Silnylon tents.

NORTENT fabrics have inherently waterproof seams: they are sewn using special elastic thread and uniquely cooled needles, minimizing needle holes and providing a high level of waterproofing.

Unlike PU coated tents which typically have factory seam tape applied, the nature of the silicone in a Silnylon tent means that traditional seam tape cannot be used - nothing will stick to it but silicone. For those looking for full waterproofing in more extreme environments we recommend seam sealing as an optional step, but for most users the seams are already waterproof enough and the seams are designed to be highly water resistant from the start.
